Data Strategy & Analytics · Purpose-Driven Nonprofits

Governed data.
Analytics that hold.
A clear path forward.

Steward Strategy & Analytics partners with nonprofits, foundations, and universities at early stages of data maturity — moving them from fragmented, spreadsheet-dependent practices to a governed, analytics-ready foundation.

"A dashboard nobody opens is not a deliverable. Every product we build is scoped against who will operate it on the Monday after handoff."

Products & Services

Six practice areas. One progression.

Every product is sequenced by what the client is ready for — not by what we can sell. The assessment is always the front door.

The sequencing rule: No stage is skipped and no stage is reversed. A client who arrives asking for a dashboard is routed back through Assess and Define first — building analytics on undefined metrics produces a dashboard nobody trusts and nobody uses.

How We Work

Two tracks. One sequence. Always governance first.

Steward delivers on two service tracks — Governance and Analytics. They are not alternatives. The Governance Track always runs first, because the maturity assessment produces the organizational data map that makes the Analytics Track's KPI design accurate and grounded.

Governance Track

Data Maturity · Governance Model Design · Council Setup
Bronze
DIY Foundation
Governance template library, council setup kit, RACI models, issue log, policy one-pager. Client self-implements.
Silver
Assessment & Scoring
46-question DMA across 7 domains. Independent SSA review and scoring, domain breakdown, draft findings, credential issued.
Advisory
Implementation
Governance council launch facilitation, leadership alignment on decision rights, policy socialization, data literacy training.

Analytics Track

Fundraising Intelligence · KPI Frameworks · FI Platform
Bronze
DIY Foundation
Analytics template library, use case workflow kit, KPI scorecard kit, metric dictionary, data crosswalk workbook.
Silver
FI Platform Access
Onboarding to the Fundraising Intelligence Platform: data ingestion setup, donor segmentation, KPI dashboard activation.
Advisory
Implementation
Staff analytics training, dashboard socialization, fundraising team workflow integration, leadership KPI briefing.
🔒
Integration Gate — 14 Days Minimum. A contractual hard floor between governance outputs landing and analytics design beginning. The governance work must be in the organization before analytics build starts. This is not a scheduling preference.

Escalation is client-initiated, not upsold. The Bronze structure is designed to create the conditions under which a client self-identifies the need for the data product, then the analysis, then the implementation support. A client who arrives asking for a dashboard is routed back through Assess and Define first.

Data Readiness

5 Signs Your Nonprofit Data Isn't Ready for Analytics — and What to Do About It

If your team exports the same spreadsheet every Monday, manually reconciles donor records between systems, or argues about which number is "right" before every board meeting, you're not alone. Most nonprofits share the same five warning signs.

What Data Maturity Really Means — and Why Funders Are Starting to Ask About It

Grant-makers are increasingly asking grantees about data governance practices. A maturity score isn't just an internal diagnostic anymore — it's becoming a credentialing signal. Here's what it means, and how to get ahead of the question.

Governance First: Why the Sequence Matters More Than the Tools You Choose

Most organizations buy the CRM, the dashboarding tool, or the AI platform first — and discover the governance problem three months later when the numbers won't reconcile. The sequence exists for a reason, and skipping it is expensive.
